David Alfaro Siqueiros, 1896-1974 - 106x60 cm. lithograph - 1968, signed and numbered 161/200 in Pencil
This lithograph is one of ten illustrations done by Siqueiros for Pablo Neruda's "Canto General". I beleive this work is
"the betrayed sand" of the series "the earth and the men", produced by Fernando Mourlot, of the North American company Racolin Inc. Press. 235 were run, but only 200 were
released to the public. At least one other addition was eventually run with some color. I beleive by a french press. Siqueiros is in almost every major modern art museum in the world, and probably hundreds of books. It would be impossible to give a biography of the artist that would do him justice, so I'll refer anyone interested in learning more about Siqueiros to Philip Steins biography of the artist.. probably the most indepth and inside look at the life of Siqueiros. |

Denis Vergin b. 1928 - Untitled - 1950 ?- 36" x 24" This painting is 1 of 3 works I purchased from a dealer in southern california. 2 of the 5 works from this collection are clearly signed "D VERGIN". These 3 bear the signature of "VER". These paintings have no provenance, but have been attributed to Denis Vergin. Vergin was a Haitian allegorical painter from the 1940's - 1950's. He also dabbled extensively in expressionism. These 3 likely date from roughly the same era in the 1940's - 1950's. |
